The Apple Car would be autonomous from its first version

If the contours of the future Apple Car are not yet well defined, rumors are rife in recent days. Besides a potential deal with Hyundai-Kia for the production of Apple's future electric car, Apple Car could do without a driver upon launch.

For now, Kia is highly likely to produce Apple’s future electric car at its plant in Georgia. The figure of 100,000 units per year is mentioned, which will not pose a problem for Kia, which is capable of producing 400,000 vehicles on this site.

Autonomous driving

According to a CNBC source familiar with the matter, upon the release of the Apple Car in 2024, the car will be equipped with autonomous driving. It is however possible that this vehicle is not designed for the general public, but rather to ensure the races of robot taxis or for deliveries of packages.

However, having autonomous driving from the start is quite ambitious, especially since the project should reach its production phase theoretically in 2024, which leaves Apple little time to develop such a technology.

A $ 3.6 billion deal

The deal which is being negotiated between Hyundai and Apple is estimated at 3.6 billion dollars according to Korean press. But for the moment, nothing has been done yet. The Cupertino company is reportedly still in negotiations with other potential partners for the production of its vehicle.

At this time, there is no clear indication that Hyundai-Kia will be the only one involved in the production of the Apple Car. Regardless, Apple has still recently hired automotive engineers from major brands in the industry to form the team responsible for the project, the first rumors of which date back to 2015.
